Meet The Right Worshipful District Grand Master – Bro. Chrispin Bishop Deigh, PM
CRAFT LODGE
Chrispin Bishop Deigh was introduced into Freemasonry by Bro Emeric Adeyemi Williams, PM and Bro R E Whitfield, PM, both now deceased and was initiated in Lodge Travellers No, 1455, the fifth premier Lodge in the District Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia, under the Grand Lodge of Scotland on Friday 26th July 1985 and subsequently passed and raised on 30th August and 25th October 1985 respectively.
He served in various offices while in continuous membership and was elected, obligated and invested as Worshipful Senior Warden in March 1997. However, due to the military inter-regnum and civil war, masonic activities were suspended in 1997. On resumption of Lodge meetings at the close of 1999, he served the residue of his term as WSW and became Master elect in February 2000 and subsequently installed as Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Travellers No 1455 on 17th March 2020, becoming the Right Worshipful Master of the Fiftieth administration of the Lodge.
Following his term as Right Worshipful Master, he served his Lodge as Secretary, Assistant Director of Ceremonies and was elected Director of Ceremonies in 2015, a position he served until his election as District Grand Master by the unanimous choice of the daughter Lodges in the District and subsequent appointment by the Grand Lodge of Scotland and granted commission of office effective 12th June 2020.
He is also a founder member of Lodge Wusum N0. 1839 and was Chartered Depute Master at the consecration of that Lodge on Saturday, 9th March 2013.
Bro. Chrispin Bishop Deigh was also granted honorary Member of Lodge Plus Ultra No. 1856, after he presided over the consecration of that Lodge in June 2021.
DISTRICT GRAND LODGE OF SIERRA LEONE AND THE GAMBIA
Held offices in District Grand Lodge as Steward and President of Stewards and the honorary preferment of Worshipful Senior Warden in April 2008. He was commissioned as Substitute District Grand Master by Bro. Jonathan Admire Thomas, PM on his assumption of office as District Grand Master in June 2010.
He had the rank of Honorary Grand Junior Deacon conferred on him in November 2016, He was appointed and commissioned as District Grand Master in June 2020 and had the unique experience of assuming the office immediately, even before his ceremonial installation into office at the expiry of the commission of his immediate predecessor in office as DistrictGrand Master, Bro. Leslie S F Nicol, PM. In August 2023, during the visit of the Grand Master Mason to Sierra Leone he was awarded the rank of Honorary Grand Junior Warden.
This unique situation of assuming the office before the ceremonial installation resulted from the demands of worldwide government restrictions imposed to curtail the Corona Virus Pandemic.
ROYAL ARCH DEGREES
Exalted in Chapter Unity No. 852 SC on 18th July 1988, he passed through the principaloffices and was installed First Most Excellent Principal in January 2008 and Right Worshipful Mark Master in April 2008.
He was admitted into the Dabenco Lodge and Council No. 859 SC in 2007 where he obtained the degrees of the Royal Ark Mariner and the Red Cross and Council and Babylonish Pass Degrees. He served in the principal offices and was installed Worshipful Commander Noah / and Most Excellent Chief in April 2011.
He was honoured, chosen, and greeted in Cryptic Council Masaboin No 819 SC in 2007, where he received the Cryptic Degrees and thereafter served in the principal offices and was installed as Thrice Illustrious Master in February 2012.
In the District Grand Chapter, he held offices as District Grand Treasurer and was subsequently commissioned as Scribe Nehemiah in April 2016 followed by an award of the rank of Honorary Grand Standard Bearer in March 2018.
GREAT PRIORY OF THE UNITED RELIGIOUS, MILITARY AND MASONIC ORDERS OF THE TEMPLE AND OF ST. JOHN OF JERUSALEM, PALESTINE, RHODES AND MALTA OF ENGLAND AND WALES AND ITS PROVINCES OVERSEAS.
He was installed KNIGHT OF THE TEMPLE at THE ASCALON PRECEPTORY NO. 163 EC on 2nd October 2017 and received THE MALTA DEGREES on 4th December of the same year at the Mark Masons Hall, James Street in London.
THE SUPREME COUNCIL FOR SCOTLAND OF THE 33rd AND LAST DEGREE OF THE ANTIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE FOR SCOTLAND AND THE DEPENDENCIES OF THE BRITISH CROWN
He was perfected and admitted into the 18° at Sierra Leone Scottish Sovereign Chapter No. 174 on the 20th day of December 2002. He became a Founder Member and Chartered Chancellor of Sovereign Chapter St, Andrew No. 247 at its consecration on 17th December 2009. He held other principal offices and was installed as Most Wise Sovereign in January 2016.
He was subsequently admitted into the 30th Degree Grand Elect Knight Kadosh at the Sierra Leone Scottish Sovereign Council No. KH 59 in January 2011 and in May 2019 was admitted into the Sovereign Grand Tribunal of Grand Inquisitor Commander 31°.
A regularly active member in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone of the Scottish Rites where he is currently the Provincial Grand Secretary.
THE ROYAL ORDER OF SCOTLAND
He was admitted into the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone under the Provincial Grand Lodge of Scotland in January 2004. He has served as Provincial Grand Secretary, Junior Grand Warden, and Senior Grand warden.
